Higgy Vasquez with his father, Emigdio Vasquez Sr. at “Un Dia en el Mercado,” Anaheim, Ca.

Apprenticing with his father, Higgy began painting in small bits at age 11. By high school, Higgy was painting full-on murals with his father. Emigdio Sr. painted over 30 murals in his career along with 400 fine art paintings. Higgy and his father created a mural at Cal State Fullerton in 2008, “Access and Educational Equity is a Right,” the last mural Emigdio would be able to contribute to, as early Alzheimer’s was beginning. Higgy carried the torch completing the mural. Three art students painted with Higgy to learn and contribute to the mural.
