The mural has reached a stage of decline with paint particles hanging on the wall. Cracks, chips, and missing sections are now prevalent within the mural.
My father kept extensive slides, photos, and drawings of all his creations. My father was painting this one while I was in high school. A friend of mine lived close by, and I would often stop at the mural to visit or help him out. Those were early days for me as an artist. I began painting at the age of 10 or 11 with my father, and by high school, I was full-on painting at various murals.

If you live in Orange County, give the mural a visit. Bright and colorful, the poignant images reach through to your heart and soul. They are beautifully done and many tell the stories of the Conquistadors, Aztec and indigenous people, evolving through to the twentieth century.
Emigdio Vasquez Sr. at the mural in 1985. Back then they had some landscaping, however, we encouraged the City not to plant or have water sprinklers there, to help preserve the remaining mural.
